I very interested in doing one of these trucks and have seen many engine options from the mid-60's thru mid-70's. Everything from the DT series, CAT, Perkins and even 2 stroke Detroits. These engines have been classified as light truck, hell these older trucks have 103 & D44 axles with some of these engine options. These years of trucks can be picked up with fairly low cost, something different and I think could be fun.
I realize that 106's, 2 & 2-1/2 ton running gear is not an option. If available in the model, could I run one of the above engines?
Specifically I'd like to put a Detroit 4-53T in a 60's GM

Any updates on my request? I'd like a up/down rule so I know where I'm at. I have to make a go/no go for my trip down to Lawton, OK.
Thx

Bryan, unfortunately I don't have any answers for you. I never thought about European trucks with the different combinations of engines and drivetrain you have suggested. I have never seen any rules that pertain to foreign vs domestic chassis/engines/drivetrain in other organizations. I will do some searching as see what I can find. Since the diesel rules are able to be modified for next year I would say it is something that we should disucss. Hopefully in December we can get all the 2009 Diesel MPA members together and discuss what we want for rule changes.
Later

Thanks for the update and at least looking into it.
FYI, this would not be a euro combo, but a USA engine mfg clpg'ed w/ a dom. car mfg that had controlling interest. GM did own Detroit, and I would like to put a 4-53T into a period correct 1-ton truck.
I would just like to know yes or no as soon as possiable. My dumb ass bought a foxbody 429 BBF drag car last week, and I need to know where to put my focus over the winter.
Thx,

Brian, I would rethink the 4-53. It is a little small for what you want to do. As in only 212 cubic inch and only usually around 150hp stock. Any 2 stroke detroit love to eat money to get power out of them. They sound cool but usually don't run the best. Now, the drag semi guys love them but they are using the 8v-92 and up sizes. And they spend tens of thousands of dollars on them to get to a competitive level. And another thing, in the pro diesel class there is a 460 cubic inch rule so that throws out the DT466s.
